How to Find a Product's Universal Product Code (UPC)

A Universal Product Code, or UPC, is a unique identifier for retail products. It helps us track and manage our inventory efficiently. It consists of two parts: a scannable barcode and the 12-digit number printed below it. You might need this 12-digit number for things like a refund claim or when suggesting a new product for us to carry.

Finding the UPC is usually straightforward. Here are the most common places to look:

  • On the Product Packaging: The UPC is almost always printed on the product's label or packaging, directly beneath the black and white barcode.
  • On the iHerb Product Page: You can find the UPC listed in the "Details" section of our online product pages for easy reference.

Why UPCs are Important

We require all products to have a registered UPC for several key reasons:

  • Product Identification: UPCs allow us to quickly and accurately identify every item in our inventory.
  • Safety and Tracking: Most importantly, UPCs are crucial for your safety. In the rare event of a product recall, we can use the UPC to instantly track all affected items and notify the customers who purchased them.

Because of these important safety and tracking functions, we cannot sell products that do not have a certified UPC.

What If I Can't Find the UPC?

If you're trying to suggest a product but don't have the packaging handy, you can typically find the UPC on the original manufacturer's or retailer's website. If you're still unable to locate it, your best option is to contact the product's manufacturer directly for assistance.
